Keiren Westwood 'snubs Liverpool chance'

Keiren Westwood reportedly rejects the chance to join Liverpool in order to repay the faith shown by Sheffield Wednesday.

Keiren Westwood has reportedly rejected the opportunity to join Liverpool because he wants to repay Sheffield Wednesday for helping to kick-start his career.

The 30-year-old joined the Owls last summer after failing to cement a regular place with Sunderland.

His form with the South Yorkshire outfit is said to have caught the eye of Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, who is widely rumoured to be looking for a replacement for Simon Mignolet.

However, Westwood is adamant that he will not be leaving Wednesday anytime soon.

He told The Mirror: "They gave me the chance to kick-start my career again, and I'm really happy to be here.

"Sometimes things just fit, and I am enjoying my football because Wednesday are a fantastic club to play for.

"I have taken to the club, the fans have taken to me, and I'm delighted with how things have gone. I am so pleased to be with a club I feel are going places, and long may that continue."

Wednesday climbed into the top half of the Championship with a 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic on Tuesday.
