West Ham United have reportedly entered negotiations with Liverpool over a £6m deal for Stewart Downing.
The Hammers showed initial interest in the winger earlier this summer, with Sam Allardyce backing away from a deal citing financial concerns.
Despite those fears, West Ham have now entered a fresh bid which could rise to £6m with performance-related add-ons, according to The Mirror.
Downing is now thought to be in preliminary talks with West Ham, despite claiming earlier this summer that he would not consider an Anfield exit during the transfer window.
The 29-year-old is currently with the Reds in Ireland preparing for a pre-season friendly with Celtic, but manager Brendan Rodgers is willing to let the England international leave.
Wages are currently the main stumbling block to an agreement between West Ham and Downing, who currently earns around £80,000 per week on Merseyside.
