West Ham United will reportedly make a bid for Everton striker Nikica Jelavic after being priced out of a move for on-loan forward Andy Carroll.
The Liverpool frontman is currently at Upton Park on a season-long loan deal and the Hammers are one of a number of potential permanent destinations should he leave Anfield at the end of the season.
Rumours on Monday suggested that manager Sam Allardyce was preparing to spend big in the summer, but The Mirror reports that the club cannot afford Liverpool's £17m asking price.
Should he be forced to look elsewhere, Allardyce will turn his attention to Jelavic, who has lost his place in the Toffees lineup to Victor Anichebe in recent weeks.
The Croatian has scored just once in his last 18 Everton games and would only cost around half of Carroll's projected transfer fee.
