Liverpool reportedly still hold an interest in signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat despite the big-money arrival of Dutch attacker Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool reportedly still hold an interest in signing Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

The 26-year-old was a standout performer at the 2022 World Cup with Morocco, who became the first African nation in history to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

Amrabat played every minute of Morocco's seven matches in Qatar and his impressive performances are said to have caught the eye of several top clubs across Europe.

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are believed to interested in his services, while the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also in the race for his signature.

A recent report claims that the Reds have made Amrabat their top target ahead of the January transfer window, with Klopp keen to reinforce his midfield.

Liverpool have already completed the signing of Dutch attacker Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven on a permanent deal, with the 23-year-old officially joining the club on January 1.

Despite this deal – which is said to be worth an initial £37m upfront and a further £7m in add-ons – Gazetta dello Sport, via The Mirror, claims that Liverpool remain interested in signing Amrabat in the winter window.

The report adds that the Reds remain 'on his trail' and are aware of the midfielder's desire to play Champions League football.

An offer between €40m (£35.5m) and €45m (£39.9m) could be enough for Fiorentina to cash in on Amrabat, who is under contract with the Serie A club until the summer of 2024.

Amrabat would allegedly prefer a move to Liverpool over Tottenham should a switch to the Premier League come to fruition, but Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has warned any interested parties away from tabling an offer for the midfielder.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport earlier this month, Prada said: "We are very happy with Sofy, we keep him close."

Amrabat is not the only midfielder who is said to be on Liverpool's radar, as they have also been strongly linked with Borussia Dortmund's Jude Bellingham and Benfica's Enzo Fernandez, who are both valued in excess of £100m.

Following the arrival of Gakpo, Klopp refused to rule out further signings in January when speaking to the press on Thursday, telling reporters: "The money you spend impacts on the money you can spend. Same for anyone.

"But we know what we want to do and [we will] see if we can do it. It's about the money of course but it's more about how it always was - the right players.

"We are really, really happy we got Cody. It's about timing and getting players in at the right moment. He always made the next step.

"We believe in our process, when players - especially offensive ones - they all make a step forward because of the way we work and we can help them."

Klopp has also confirmed that Gakpo is unlikely to make his Liverpool debut when they face Brentford in the Premier League on January 2.
