Schakle 04 face competition from Liverpool for Salomon Kalou, according to Huub Stevens.

Schalke 04 manager Huub Stevens has revealed that Liverpool are rivals for the signature of Salomon Kalou.

The 26-year-old is looking for a club, having been released by Chelsea following six years at Stamford Bridge.

It was widely expected that the Bundesliga club were in pole position to sign the forward, but Stevens has now revealed that they face competition from the Reds.

"Kalou is a Bosman player," said Stevens. "It's obvious - there are many other clubs keen on him; Liverpool for example.

"But I know for sure he wants to move away from England. This might be our chance."

Kalou joined Chelsea from Feyenoord for a reported £9m fee in 2006.
