Liverpool are reportedly willing to accept significant offers for Thiago Alcantara in the January transfer window, with the Spaniard's contract expiring next summer.

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for midfielder Thiago Alcantara during the January transfer window, with the player's contract at Anfield expiring next summer.

The 32-year-old joined the Reds from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in September 2020, however his time in the Premier League has been impacted heavily by a number of injuries.

Thiago featured 18 times in the top flight for Liverpool last term - starting 14 of those matches - before suffering a hip issue in the closing stages of the campaign.

The former Spain international has not turned out for the Reds since their 2-1 away loss to West Ham United on April 26, when he appeared for 31 minutes off the bench at the London Stadium.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are open to offers for Thiago in the January transfer window, with the player's time at Anfield potentially drawing to a close.

The report claims that the Merseysiders would be prepared to offload the midfielder at the next opportunity, especially considering that the Spaniard is on high wages at the club.

It is understood that the Reds and Thiago have opened talks over a new contract for the midfielder, however the club are not prepared to offer the 32-year-old fresh terms just yet.

Thiago's poor injury and appearance record since joining from Bayern three years ago is preventing Liverpool from tabling a new contract, and the 2020 Premier League winners reportedly want to see an improvement in those highlighted metrics before entering advanced negotiations.

The report adds that Thiago had interest in his services from clubs in the Turkish Super Lig and Saudi Pro League during the summer transfer window, although none of the player's potential suitors were able to get a deal across the line.

It is also believed that Liverpool refused to terminate the contract of the midfielder, preventing him from sealing a last-gasp switch to Turkish side Trabzonspor in September.

Thiago's current deal at Anfield expires in the summer of 2024, meaning that the 46-time international could leave for free at the conclusion of the campaign if a new agreement cannot be sorted out.

Should the ex-Bayern player return to Liverpool's side after recovering from his hip issue, he will find an engine room bolstered by the summer arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

The Reds have fared well without the services of their Spanish playmaker at the start of the 2023-24 term, with Klopp's men currently unbeaten in matches across the Premier League and Europa League.

Championship leaders Leicester City are the visitors to Anfield in the third round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night, presenting the Merseysiders with the chance to extend their winning run to seven matches in all competitions.
