Liverpool are closing in on a £12m deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Emre Can, reports suggest.
The Germany Under-21 star is also being watched by former club Bayern Munich, according to The Telegraph.
The 20-year-old, who is of Turkish descent, was sold to Leverkusen for just £4.5m, though Bayern are said to have negotiated a buy-back clause that they are keen to activate next summer.
The box-to-box midfielder has been compared to Germany international Bastian Schweinsteiger, with Leverkusen hopeful he will stay in Germany and follow in Schweinsteiger's footsteps.
However, Brendan Rogers is supposedly hopeful that the lure of Champions League football at Anfield will be enough to convince Can to become Liverpool's first signing of what is expected to be a busy transfer window for the Reds.
