Liverpool have reportedly lodged a bid for AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie shortly before the mid-season transfer window is due to open.
Jurgen Klopp is set to be without Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita next month as the trio head off to represent their respective countries at the Africa Cup of Nations, and it is believed to have prompted the Reds into some January transfer business.
While Liverpool will remain with a host of options in the middle of the pitch, injuries and coronavirus implications have meant that the Reds want to strengthen the depth in their squad to keep up their Premier League title challenge.
According to Liverpool Echo, Klopp's team have launched a bid for Kessie, who has also been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old twice played against Liverpool this season in the Champions League group stages and only has six months remaining on his contract at the Giuseppe Meazza, meaning that he could be an easy target to secure in January.
Kessie arrived at AC Milan in 2017, initially on loan, and has gone on to make 205 appearances for the club.
