Liverpool's Jordan Henderson: 'We need to keep Steven Gerrard'

Jordan Henderson believes that Liverpool "need" to keep Steven Gerrard at the club for as long as they can.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson believes that the club "need" to keep hold of their captain Steven Gerrard, whose future at Anfield remains uncertain.

The former England skipper, who will come to the end of his current contract in the summer, has been offered a new one-year deal by the Merseyside outfit.

However, the 34-year-old midfielder has claimed that he is yet to make a decision about whether to stay at his boyhood club or prolong his career elsewhere.

Henderson, who was appointed vice-captain earlier in the season, believes that Gerrard's performance in last night's 3-1 away win over Leicester City shows that he still has plenty to offer.

"He's a massive player for us and a great leader," The Express quotes Henderson as saying. "We need to keep him for as long as we can. I hope he stays for many years to come.

"I thought Steven was outstanding for us. It was a real captain's performance from him. He worked so hard for the team and he got his rewards with his goal."

Gerrard began his Liverpool career at the age of eight.
