Dundee re-sign Liverpool defender Owen Beck on loan for the rest of the season, only a few weeks after the Reds recalled the 21-year-old from Dens Park.

Dundee have re-signed Owen Beck on loan from Liverpool for the remainder of the season, only a few weeks after the defender was recalled to Anfield.

Beck initially travelled to Scotland in the summer with the intention of completing a season-long loan at Dens Park, and the 21-year-old became a fan favourite with the Dundee faithful during the first half of the campaign.

Beck registered two goals and two assists in 17 Scottish Premiership matches for Dundee, who were disappointed to wave goodbye to the Wales Under-21 international when he was summoned back to Liverpool.

At the time, Jurgen Klopp was without his two recognised left-backs in Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas due to injury, and Beck was handed his Premier League debut as a late substitute against Bournemouth two weekends ago.

However, with Robertson now fit again and Joe Gomez also impressing on the left-hand side of defence, Liverpool have allowed Beck to make another temporary exit from the club, and he will link back up with his Dundee teammates straight away.

"I am made up to be back, after the first half of the season that we both had together. I now just can't wait to get back out there and perform in front of the fans again. I am over the moon to be back," Beck told DeeTV.

"I just want to thank the Dundee fans for their support in the first half of the season, even when you found out I got recalled you were fantastic with me, but I am back again, so let's get to work again."

Dundee head coach Tony Docherty was similarly overjoyed to welcome Beck back to Dens Park and thanked the Reds for allowing the Welsh youngster to return to the Scottish Premiership.

"I am absolutely delighted that Owen is back with us. It came to our attention on Sunday after the Liverpool game when Andy Robertson came on and with Tsimikas returning from injury there might be a possibility that Owen might return to us," Docherty added.

"He's made such a positive impact in the first half of the season both on and off the pitch. When we got confirmation from Liverpool yesterday that he could come back to Dundee everyone at the club was so excited, the coaches, the players, and all the other staff at the club. I know the fans will be overjoyed that Owen is back as they loved watching him play in the dark blue of Dundee.

"We are just looking forward to getting Owen back to what Owen is, he is a brilliant boy, a fantastic member of a really good squad and everyone is really looking forward to having him back. I would like to thank Liverpool for allowing Owen to return and to Matt Newberry at Liverpool for all of his help and support."

Owing to his impressive displays in a Dundee shirt, Beck - who has played three times for the Liverpool first team - also received his first senior Wales call-up last October and made the bench for a 4-0 friendly victory over Gibraltar.

Dundee are in Scottish Premiership action against Aberdeen on Tuesday night, although Beck may have to wait until Saturday's home clash with Hearts to make his second debut for the Dark Blues, who sit seventh in the rankings with 25 points from 20 matches.
