Philipp Degen released by Liverpool

Liverpool agree to release right-back Philipp Degen by mutual consent.

Liverpool have released defender Philipp Degen from the club by mutual consent.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish has recently had the choice of Glen Johnson, Martin Kelly and John Flanagan at right-back so Degen has been allowed to move on.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan in Germany with Stuttgart and his time at Liverpool was hampered by a series of injury problems.

The Swiss full-back moved to Anfield from Borussia Dortmund in 2008 and made 13 first-team appearances.
