Leon Britton: 'Joe Allen deserves move to big club'

Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton hopes that Joe Allen will remain at the Liberty Stadium this summer but understands if the Welshman opts for a transfer.

Swansea City midfielder Leon Britton believes that fellow club teammate Joe Allen is worthy of a switch to a 'big club' but has insisted that it would be 'disappointing' to lose the playmaker.

The 22-year-old, who is currently competing for Team GB at London 2012, has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, with reports claiming that the Reds are willing to pay up to £15m for the Welshman.

"We would be disappointed if Joe goes," Allen told Wales Online. "That goes for the players, the staff and the fans. That's because if he goes, we know we will be losing a really good player.

"Players like Joe are hard to replace - the money they are talking about him going for tells you how good he is. But you can't begrudge him the move if it happens. We would have to wish him good luck.

"We hope he will stick with us, but it would be a great opportunity for him if he ends up going. He deserves the opportunity to go to one of the big clubs not just in England but in European football."

It is understood that Allen will make a decision on his future after the Olympic Games in a fortnight.
