Mohamed Salah becomes the first Liverpool player since 1986-87 to score in four different games against an opponent in a single season courtesy of his strike against Manchester City.

Mohamed Salah has become the first Liverpool player for 36 years to score in four different games against an opponent in the same season courtesy of his goal against Manchester City this afternoon.

The Egyptian opened the scoring at the Etihad Stadium with an unerring finish from Diogo Jota's layoff after only 17 minutes.

The Premier League contest is the fourth time that the two rivals have faced off this season, and Salah has now scored in all of them having also netted in the Community Shield, EFL Cup and reverse Premier League meeting.

In doing so, Salah has become the first Liverpool player since legendary striker Ian Rush in 1986-87 to score against the same team in four separate games across the course of a single season.

However, the winger will not be able to match Rush's feat from that season, when the former Wales international scored in five Merseyside derbies against Everton.

Rush's goals in 1986-87 came in the Charity Shield, both legs of the now-defunct English Super Cup, the League Cup and the First Division, while he also scored against Everton in the final of the FA Cup at the end of the 1985-86 campaign.

Salah's goal also brought up another milestone as he moved out on his own above Michael Owen as Liverpool's leading scorer away from home in the Premier League era, with 56 to his name now.

In total, the 30-year-old has now scored 11 times in 19 games against Man City during his career, including in five of the last six Premier League meetings.
