Result: Stoke City 1-0 Liverpool

Stoke maintain their unbeaten start to the season by edging out Liverpool 1-0 at the Britannia.

Stoke City have maintained their unbeaten start to the season by narrowly defeating Liverpool 1-0 at the Britannia Stadium.

The visitors started well with Luis Suarez orchestrating proceedings, but the Reds were unable to break through Stoke's resolute back line.

The Potters took a surprise lead midway through the first half when Jamie Carragher was adjudged to have obstructed Jonathan Walters inside the area.

Mark Clattenburg pointed to the spot and Walters stepped up himself and slammed the ball down the middle.

Liverpool had chances in the second half, perhaps the best of these coming when Jordan Henderson ran clear before Asmir Begovic made a triple save from Henderson and Charlie Adam.

Right at the death Luis Suarez, who had a second-half penalty claim dismissed by Clattenburg, missed an open goal to snatch a draw.

Stoke now move ahead of Liverpool into fourth while the Reds drop to fifth.
