Luis Suarez could captain Liverpool in trip to Tottenham Hotspur

Brendan Rodgers says that Luis Suarez is a contender to captain Liverpool in Steven Gerrard's absence.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he could name Luis Suarez as captain when Liverpool travel to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

With Steven Gerrard out injured until January, Rodgers says that Suarez would be "100%" ready if given the nod ahead of vice captain Daniel Agger.

"Daniel Agger is fit. He didn't train at the start of the week because he was ill, but he has been training now and he's available for selection. We shall see who will be captain," Rodgers is quoted as saying by The Guardian.

"Would Luis be ready? 100%, absolutely. We will have to wait and see what my decision is at White Hart Lane. You'll see then."

Suarez has scored 14 league goals so far this season.
