Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers rues missed chances

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers reveals his frustration as his side are held to a goalless draw by West Bromwich Albion in their Premier League clash.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was left ruing his side's missed chances as they were held to a goalless draw by West Bromwich Albion in their pursuit of a top-four place in the Premier League.

The Reds struggled in the first 45 minutes as the Baggies were resilient at the back, but began to carve out chances in the second half as Philippe Coutinho's effort was saved by Boaz Myhill and Jordon Ibe hit the crossbar.

However, Rodgers's men were unable to get the crucial goal as they were forced to settle for a point at The Hawthorns.

He told BBC Sport: "We created opportunities, our only downfall was taking those chances but that has been a problem over the course of the season. I thought the players were outstanding, their courage and play on the ball. Across the team there were some outstanding performances.

"We have a game in hand and we have to chase that and fight for that but if the players play like they did today, nine times out of 10 they would win. We will take this confidence into the midweek game.

"We have to rely on other teams, but we can only do our job and that is still the plan."

Liverpool are fifth in the Premier League table, six points behind Manchester City in the final Champions League place.
