Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers explains that the Premier League is the club's top priority this season ahead of the start of the Europa League.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has reaffirmed that the Premier League is the club's top priority this season ahead of the start of their Europa League campaign.

Rodgers has rested a number of senior players, including captain Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Pepe Reina, for the team's trip to Switzerland to face Young Boys on Thursday.

"There is no doubt the Premier League is our number one priority, I've made that clear from the off with the position with our squad," the Reds boss told reporters.

"I look at Real Madrid v Manchester City last night and Samir Nasri came off with an injury but they have a massive squad who can accommodate that.

"If I lose some of my key players that can make it very difficult for us for the next two or three months."

The Merseysiders have also been pitted against Udinese and big-spending Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala in Europa League Group A.
