Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers calls for end of vile chants

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that he hopes offensive chants will come to an end following the Hillsborough independent panel report.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that the revelations of the Hillsborough disaster should spell the end of offensive and hateful chants at football grounds.

Previously unseen documents were made public yesterday, which completely exonerated Liverpool supporters from blame for the death of 96 of their own fans during an FA Cup semi-final between the Merseyside club and Nottingham Forest.

Chants regarding tragedies, such as Hillsborough and the Munich air disaster involving Manchester United, have been well documented in stadiums across the country but Rodgers is hopeful that it will come to an end soon.

"I speak as a human being and I don't ever like to hear anything like that, whatever club it is, that associates with other people's tragedies and death," said Rodgers.

"Unfortunately you have a very small percentage of idiots at any club who will always try to smear another club's reputation."

Meanwhile, the Football Association have apologised to the victims' families of the disaster following the independent panel's report.
