Brendan Rodgers hails Liverpool strike partnership

Brendan Rodgers expresses his delight at the on-field relationship between Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge following Liverpool's 3-1 win at Sunderland.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his delight at the on-field relationship between Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

The Reds have operated with just one central striker for most of the season so far. However, following the completion of Suarez's 10-match ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic, Rodgers switched formation to incorporate two forwards in Wednesday's 1-0 defeat at Manchester United.

He kept faith in that system on Sunday and was rewarded as Suarez and Sturridge contributed all three of Liverpool's goals during a 3-1 win at Sunderland.

Speaking about Suarez after the game, Rodgers told BBC Sport: "He's getting the reward for his hard work in the period he was off.

"He and Daniel Sturridge are a great partnership, they complement each other. We've changed our system a bit to a 3-4-1-2 and it's working well."

Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table, having taken 13 points from their opening six games.
