Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has insisted that the Reds should be targeting a top four-finish following their winning start to the Premier League season.
Liverpool beat Aston Villa 1-0 on Saturday to follow up last weekend's victory against Stoke City by the same score and have moved temporarily into second place.
"Their ambition should be to get into the top four this year," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.
"The two Manchester clubs and Chelsea are a different class and I've said that before, but I think it's between Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool for that other place.
"They've got to bridge that gap. Twelve points [behind fourth-placed Arsenal last season] is too much for a club of Liverpool's stature and they need to get a couple more players in."
Liverpool come up against Manchester United in their next fixture.
