Michael Owen backs Liverpool for Premier League title

Michael Owen believes that Liverpool can win the Premier League title this season.

Michael Owen has backed his former club Liverpool to win the Premier League title this season.

The Reds are currently two points behind leaders Arsenal in second place in the table.

"Liverpool are fully deserving of being labelled title contenders," the retired striker wrote in a blog on Sportlobster. "The Reds are firmly back in the big time.

"The noises I am hearing are that [manager Brendan] Rodgers has money to spend this coming window and should he unearth another couple of gems, I certainly wouldn't back against them lifting some silverware come May."

Owen played for Liverpool between 1996 and 2004.
