Liverpool's Anfield expansion plans given green light

Liverpool gain permission to expand Anfield, which will see the club increase the capacity of the stadium to 58,000.

Liverpool have been granted permission by the City Council to extend the capacity of Anfield.

The Reds plan to carry out the expansion in two phases, which will eventually allow 58,000 fans to attend home matches.

Phase one will see the Main Stand increased, while the second will result in a redevelopment of the Anfield Road end.

The plans were put forward before the council and received a unanimous backing, having already come through an initial vote to defer the plans.
