Liverpool will reportedly announce plans to undergo a £154m redevelopment of Anfield after scrapping the idea of building a brand new stadium.

Liverpool are reportedly due to announce today that they intend to redevelop Anfield as opposed to building a new stadium for the Merseyside club.

Question marks over the Reds' stadium future have been raised over the last two years but it is believed that the Premier League outfit will confirm in a press conference today that they intend to expand their home ground from a 45,000-seat capacity to 60,000.

It is understood that club owner John W Henry has struck a deal with the Liverpool City Council to allow the ground's Main Stand and Anfield Road stand to extend in what is thought to be a £154m redevelopment, according to The Express.

There were plans to build a new ground on Stanley Park but reports have claimed that Henry has always preferred to stay at Anfield.
