Jurgen Klopp: 'Liverpool got lucky with Simon Mignolet foul'

Boss Jurgen Klopp acknowledges that Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was "lucky" not to be sent off against Stoke City on Wednesday night.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he could not have disputed the referee's decision had Simon Mignolet been sent off against Stoke City on Wednesday night.

During the Premier League fixture at the bet365 Stadium, Mignolet fouled Mame Biram Diouf outside of the penalty area, preventing the Potters winger from tapping home into an empty net, but the official opted to give the Belgian a yellow card.

Klopp initially disagreed with Stoke manager Mark Hughes that Mignolet should have been dismissed, but the German has now accepted that Liverpool were fortunate to keep 11 men on the pitch.

The 50-year-old told reporters: "First can I say it was first time this season we were lucky in a situation. I've watched it again and if there had been a red card for Simon we couldn't have argued.

"I can understand why [Hughes] was angry. I respect and like Mark a lot. Was it a decisive moment? Yes probably but we also had a lot of those decisions [against us] this season."

Liverpool eventually prevailed by a 3-0 scoreline, with the incident occurring at 1-0.
