Arne Slot reveals that he will be leaving Feyenoord to become the new manager of Liverpool.

Arne Slot has revealed that he will be leaving Feyenoord to become the new manager of Liverpool.

Outgoing boss Jurgen Klopp is currently preparing to take charge of his final game of a trophy-laden spell at Anfield with Wolverhampton Wanderers the visitors to Merseyside on Sunday afternoon.

However, it has been an open secret for a number of weeks that Slot has emerged as the preferred candidate to replace the German in the Liverpool dugout.

Despite Slot's previous comments regarding a potential switch to the Premier League giants, no official announcement has been forthcoming from Liverpool.

Nevertheless, on Friday afternoon, the 45-year-old confirmed he had agreed terms to become Klopp's replacement.

How was the news revealed?

At 2.16pm, BST, Feyenoord released a video on X to declare that the 'Arne Slot era was coming to an end'.

Speaking at a press conference later in the afternoon, Slot told the media that he would soon be unveiled as the next manager of Liverpool.

He said: "I can confirm that I will become the trainer there next year."

As it stands, no official announcement has followed from Liverpool, it currently unclear whether they are choosing to wait until after Klopp's 491st and final match in charge.

According to The Guardian, though, Liverpool have agreed to pay Feyenoord €9m (£7.7m) plus €2m (£1.71m) in add-ons for Slot's services.

What next for Slot?

On the same day that Klopp will be saying an emotional goodbye to Liverpool, Slot will be doing the same at De Kuip as Feyenoord play host to Excelsior.

Feyenoord have already conceded the Eredivisie title to PSV Eindhoven, but Slot's three-year spell at De club aan de Maas has been an overwhelming success.

In his first season in charge, Slot guided Feyenoord to the Europa Conference League final, where they lost to Roma, before a first Dutch crown in six years was secured in 2022-23.

Despite failing to defend their title, Feyenoord were able to end a five-year wait for another KNVB Beker with victory over NEC Nijmegen.
