Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has been appointed as the player-coach of Thailand Premier League side Muangthong United.
The 36-year-old signed for the club as a player in July, but after United's defeat to Kuwait in the AFC Cup this week, Fowler was given the coaching position when Henriqu Calisto was sacked.
"The board have appointed Robbie Fowler as the acting head coach and terminate the contract of Portuguese boss Henrique Calisto," read a statement on the club's official website.
"The contract is until the end of the season and the team must adapt to long-term goals if it is to succeed in Asia."
The former England international had previously been playing in the Australian A-league for North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory.
