Jamie Carragher: 'Liverpool defensively worse than last season'

Jamie Carragher slams Liverpool's "shocking start" against West Ham United, saying that the club look worse defensively now than they did last season

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that the club look "far worse" defensively now than they did last season.

The Reds fell to their third defeat of the campaign with a 3-1 reverse against West Ham United this evening, conceding two goals in the first seven minutes at Upton Park.

Despite recruiting at the back over the summer, Carragher insists that Liverpool still look frail having conceded eight goals in their first five league outings.

"Shocking start from Lfc," the 36-year-old said on Twitter. "Had to change system as WH diamond getting the better of Lfc's. After losing Suarez Lfc were never going to score 100 goals + this season so had to be better defensively, they actually look worse now."

Carragher spent his entire senior career at Anfield before retiring from football last year
