Jamie Carragher: 'Vincent Kompany can be the greatest in Premier League history'

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher thinks that Vincent Kompany will become recognised as the greatest defender in Premier League history if he maintains his form.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has expressed his belief that Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany can solidify a reputation as the greatest defender in Premier League history.

Carragher was selecting his finest overseas XI for the Daily Mail, and picked the City skipper in defence alongside ex-Manchester United star Nemanja Vidic.

Carragher said: "The biggest compliment I can pay the Belgian is that if he maintains his standards for the next four or five years — and City are successful at home and abroad — he could outstrip John Terry as the Premier League's greatest defender.

"He has the elegance of Rio Ferdinand and the steel of Nemanja Vidic."

Kompany has skippered City to two titles in three seasons.
