Liverpool's Joe Allen pleased with Manchester City win

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen hails the importance of the 2-1 victory over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

Joe Allen has stated that Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday is their biggest win of the season.

The Reds have moved up to fifth in the Premier League with the victory at Anfield, and are now two points behind the Champions League places.

Allen believes that it was the ideal response to Thursday's Europa League exit at the hands of Besiktas.

"It's probably our biggest win of the season in terms of the timing of it," he told ESPN.

"It was certainly the perfect response to Thursday night. With the disappointment of getting knocked out of the Europa League, which we wanted to do really well in, it going to extra time and penalties, coupled with playing the champions, it was a great game to get three points in.

"We made a point of saying we didn't want [the Besiktas game] to be an excuse. We wanted to make sure we threw everything at this game. Fair play to every single player who was involved, everyone had an impact."

Liverpool host Burnley on Wednesday.
