John Aldridge: 'Curtis Jones can match Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool'

Former striker John Aldridge says that Curtis Jones has the potential to match the progress of Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

John Aldridge has tipped Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones to match the progression of teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.

After biding his time in the academy setup, Jones has been provided with opportunities this season, scoring twice from three starts and three substitute appearances.

On Tuesday night, Jones skippered Liverpool's youngest-ever side against Shrewsbury Town in their FA Cup fourth-round replay, helping the club to a 1-0 victory at Anfield.

After being provided with the extra responsibility, Aldridge has tipped the 19-year-old to continue to make a positive impression in Jurgen Klopp's team, like Alexander-Arnold has done since being handed his full debut against Tottenham Hotspur at 18 years of age in October 2016.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Aldridge said: "I've been watching Curtis for some years now since he was 15. And you could see - very much like Trent Alexander-Arnold - the potential that the lad had.

"He is just a quality footballer with natural ability and a good arrogance. He knows he is good and he does things the right way, but the lad can be a star. I've always known that and now that he has been given a couple of opportunities by Jurgen [Klopp] things have come to fruition.

"It looks like Adam Lallana is leaving at the end of the season after his contract expires. This lad will save the manager a lot of money because he can step right into the squad and you can always depend on him. He's got a fantastic future."

Jones will hope to be involved when Liverpool play six matches in the space of three weeks between February 15 and March 7.
