Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Naby Keita will spend a "while" on the sidelines with the hamstring injury that he sustained against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Guinea international overcame bruising sustained in the Manchester United win to start against the Seagulls but lasted just 20 minutes of the contest at Anfield.
Liverpool are already depleted in midfield with Harvey Elliott and James Milner out of contention, and the Reds have been dealt yet another blow with the luckless Keita.
Speaking to the press ahead of Liverpool's Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid, Klopp said: "Naby has a hamstring injury so will be out for a while. Apart from that, Millie it's clear [he won't be involved] and the others who are out long-term will be out as well.
"Injuries [in this] period of the season are completely normal, as long as they are not too harsh we have to accept that. The players will be back, hopefully soon, and then they are in contention again as well."
The Liverpool boss also confirmed that Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho are in contention to feature on Wednesday after overcoming their own injury problems.
