Roberto Firmino's record vs. Watford

Ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash with Watford at Anfield, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Roberto Firmino's record against the Hornets.

Liverpool will aim to remain within touching distance of Premier League leaders Manchester City when they welcome Watford to Anfield for Saturday's early kickoff.

The Reds are only one point behind the reigning champions as the top flight resumes following the international break and have won each of their last nine in the Premier League.

Roberto Firmino bagged a hat-trick for the Reds as they claimed an emphatic 5-0 win at Vicarage Road against Watford back in October, and having been left at home during the international break, the Brazil international has a strong chance of starting this one.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Firmino's record against the Hornets.

Firmino's first taste of action against Watford was a forgettable affair as the Reds were thrashed 3-0 by the Hornets at Vicarage Road in December 2015, but Jurgen Klopp's side recovered with a 2-0 win at Anfield later that year, with Firmino scoring his side's second on the day.

The ex-Hoffenheim man would then proceed to score one and assist two more as Liverpool ran out 6-1 winners at their Merseyside home in November 2016, although he drew another blank at Vicarage Road later that year.

Firmino quickly broke that duck with a goal and assist away from home in a 3-3 draw on the opening day of the 2017-18 season before scoring his side's third in a 5-0 Anfield thumping - the only Liverpool goal that did not come from Mohamed Salah on the night.

A slightly underwhelming period versus Watford would soon follow for Firmino, who did find the back of the net against them in November 2018 before missing the following Anfield win due to an adductor injury.

The Brazilian would then fail to contribute in either game versus Watford in the 2019-20 season as Liverpool suffered another humbling 3-0 loss at Vicarage Road just before the first COVID-19 lockdown, but he gave Watford a harsh welcome back to the Premier League a few months ago.

Indeed, Firmino scored three and assisted one more as Liverpool ran riot with a 5-0 success on Watford's turf earlier this term, with the Hornets now being the side the South American enjoys facing the most.

A tally of 12 goal contributions (eight goals, four assists) from 10 games is the joint-most against a single opponent in Firmino's career, and only against Arsenal (nine goals, three assists) has he scored more.

The Reds have also won seven of their 10 games against Watford with Firmino in the side - including all four such encounters at Anfield - as the 30-year-old seeks another impressive haul versus the 18th-placed Hornets to aid Liverpool's title bid.
