Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish angers Liverpool fans on Twitter

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish angers Liverpool fans by claiming that their team celebrated beating the Eagles in the FA Cup fifth round like they'd won the league.

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has been forced to defend his comments about Liverpool's FA Cup fifth-round celebrations on Twitter after angering a number of Reds fans.

The businessman witnessed his side relinquish a one-goal lead to suffer a 2-1 defeat in Saturday night's encounter at Selhurst Park.

On Sunday night, Parish tweeted: "When we took over we just avoided going to the third tier. Yesterday #LFC beat us. They are celebrating like they won the league #progress."

Some Liverpool supporters appeared to take offence to Parish's remarks, but he defended his claims to them by tweeting, "I love #LFC great club just saying we have come a long way," and "you're so wrong , we are nothing but joyful , wish you all the best hope you win it."

Prior to Saturday's encounter, Liverpool failed to beat Palace in two previous meetings.
