Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk says that teammate Mohamed Salah is capable of 'beating anyone' as the club prepare to face Manchester City in the Champions League.

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has backed Mohamed Salah to make the difference when the Merseyside giants face Manchester City in the Champions League.

The Premier League teams have been paired alongside each other in the last eight of the competition, with City holding an 18-point advantage over Liverpool in the top-flight standings.

However, Liverpool have already defeated Pep Guardiola's men at Anfield this season and ahead of the first leg of their European tie, Van Dijk has suggested that Salah is capable of orchestrating another success for the Reds.

The 26-year-old is quoted by Sky Sports News as saying: "That's what everyone knows. That's how we feel as well.

"He's that kind of player that you just need to be on your best. When he is 100% and in the zone then he can beat anyone. There are ways to stop him but I'm not going to tell you because I don't want our opponents to think about it."

Salah has contributed 35 goals and 10 assists in 39 outings in the Premier League and Champions League this season.
