Steven Gerrard: 'There's more to Real Madrid than Cristiano Ronaldo'

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard believes that there is more to Real Madrid than just Cristiano Ronaldo.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the world's best players, but warned his side that there is more to Real Madrid than the Portuguese forward.

The Reds host the European champions in the Champions League on Wednesday, and Ronaldo, who has already scored 19 goals in 12 games this term, is expected to be in Los Blancos' starting lineup.

Gerrard talked up the talents of Ronaldo ahead of the game, but admitted that Carlo Ancelotti's side are full of quality throughout their ranks – despite being without Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale for the trip to Anfield.

He told reporters: "When Cristiano played for Manchester United there were signs that he was a world-class player. The figures he produced for Manchester United were very, very good. But his game has gone on to another level.

"Now he is arguably the best player in the world. He has improved each year. The numbers and goals he scores now, he is setting new records and taking the game to another level.

"He is phenomenal, but it would be very disrespectful if we just worry about Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid are full of fantastic players. But my main concern is my teammates and it's important we try to perform well collectively and make it as difficult as possible for Real Madrid."

Liverpool are currently third in Group B.
