Steven Gerrard vows to take Liverpool back to the Champions League before he retires from football.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he is determined to take the Reds back to the Champions League before he hangs up his boots.

The 33-year-old, who recently signed a new contract at Anfield, is expected to wear the captain's armband for a record 10 years, but the midfielder has insisted that individual accolades are not his priority.

"I realised it was coming up to 10 years as captain," Gerrard told the Liverpool Echo.

"As I have gone along I have made certain personal achievements which are nice and they are good bonuses to what you really want out of the game.

"But my main focus is achieving stuff with the team. My focus now is to try and win a couple of trophies before I hang my boots up and try to get this club back in the Champions League."

Gerrard will hold his testimonial at Anfield tomorrow against Olympiacos.
