Marseille retain Champions League hope after victory at Lille

Marseille beat Lille 4-0 in Ligue 1 to retain their slim hopes of Champions League qualification.

Marseille maintained their slim hopes of Champions League qualification by defeating Lille 4-0 in Ligue 1 this evening.

The visitors took the lead two minutes in, with Andre-Pierre Gignac scoring after Dimitri Payet fed him through.

Midway through the half, Rod Fanni doubled Marseille's advantage after heading in from Payet's corner.

Marcos Lopes almost reduced the deficit after half time, but Steve Mandanda saved his effort.

Romain Alessandrini made it three with 20 minutes left, scoring on the break thanks to Andre Ayew's through ball.

Ayew then got on the scoresheet himself, with a left-footed strike after another Marseille counter-attack.

The result leaves Marseille two points behind third-placed AS Monaco in the table with one game left to play.
