David Navarro: 'Cristiano Ronaldo elbow was accidental'

Levante defender David Navarro insists that he did not mean to elbow Cristiano Ronaldo during his side's match with Real Madrid on Sunday night.

Levante defender David Navarro has insisted that an elbow that caused a cut above Cristiano Ronaldo's left eye was 'accidental'.

The Real Madrid winger was forced off with the injury at half-time of the club's 2-1 victory at Levante but Navarro believes that it was an incident that could of occurred in any game.

Navarro told Levante's official website: "It was an accident, at no time did I try to cause harm to Cristiano Ronaldo.

"These are things that happen during a game and I regret having wounded him, but I repeat that it was something completely involuntary."

The injury has also resulted in Ronaldo being forced to withdraw from the Portugal squad that is due to play Gabon on Wednesday.
