Kalvin Phillips withdraws from the England squad after picking up a calf problem, with James Ward-Prowse replacing the Leeds United man.

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has withdrawn from the England squad through injury.

The 25-year-old completed the full 90 minutes of the Whites' 1-0 win over Watford at the weekend, but the club have since revealed that he suffered a calf strain in that Premier League fixture.

As a result, Phillips has been forced to pull out of October's World Cup qualifiers with Andorra and Hungary, with Gareth Southgate electing to call up James Ward-Prowse as his replacement.

Phillips played an integral role for the Three Lions en route to the Euro 2020 final in the summer and withdraws a day after Reece James pulled out of international duty with an ankle problem.

Ward-Prowse has now linked up with the England squad at St George's Park alongside Ben Chilwell - who replaced Chelsea teammate James - and Tammy Abraham, a late call-up amid his strong start to life with Roma.

Phillips has played every minute of Leeds' most recent six Premier League matches but is now fighting to be fit for the Whites' first game back against Southampton after the international break on October 16.
