Ken Bates leaves post as Leeds United president

Leeds United announce that former owner Ken Bates is no longer the club's president.

Leeds United have announced that former owner Ken Bates is no longer the club's president.

The British businessman sold his shares in the Championship team to Dubai-based investment bank GFH capital last year.

A brief statement on the club's official website said: "Ken Bates has ceased to be President of Leeds United Football Club. Mr Bates will now no longer have any role within the football club."

Following the sale, it was announced that Bates would remain as the club's chairman, before taking up the role of president at the end of last season.

The former Chelsea owner bought the Elland Road side in 2005.
