League Two newcomers Wrexham will face Wigan Athletic in the EFL Cup first round.

League Two newcomers Wrexham have been handed a home tie against Wigan Athletic in the first round of the EFL Cup.

On Thursday morning, it was revealed that last season's National League champions would start their league campaign at home to MK Dons.

Phil Parkinson's side have now been given another high-profile fixture at the Racecourse Ground in the form of Wigan, who were relegated from the Championship last season.

The sides that were relegated from the Premier League were all handed favourable fixtures with Leeds United being presented with a Elland Road showdown with Shrewsbury Town.

Leicester City will make the short trip to play Burton Albion, while Southampton have been handed a visit to League Two outfit Gillingham.

Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion meet in an all-Championship tie, as do Huddersfield Town and Middlesbrough who will meet at the John Smith's Stadium.

Queens Park Rangers and Norwich City fall into the same category, while last season's National League playoff winners Notts County will go up against Lincoln City.

The ties will be played on the week commencing August 7.
