Championship week 36 predictions including Hull vs. Leeds

Sports Mole provides score predictions for this weekend's Championship matches, including Hull vs. Leeds and West Bromwich Albion vs. Wigan.

Hull vs. Leeds (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Leeds United's Mateusz Klich celebrates after scoring their first goal on February 26, 2020© Reuters

Leeds United will be looking to make it four straight Championship victories when they travel to Hull City on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites have picked up nine points from their last three fixtures to consolidate second spot in the table, while Hull have dropped into 17th position as they continue to struggle for form.

We say: Hull 0-2 Leeds

It is really, really difficult to make a case for Hull in this weekend's contest. The Tigers have had a rotten 2020 thus far and will not relish facing one of the best teams in the division; we fancy Leeds to run out 2-0 winners at the KCOM Stadium in Saturday's early start.

Blackburn vs. Swansea (Saturday, 3pm)

Blackburn's Darragh Lenihan celebrates scores their second goal on January 28, 2020© Reuters

Two teams battling for playoff positions in the Championship will lock horns at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon when Blackburn Rovers welcome Swansea City.

Blackburn are currently eighth in the table, four points off the top six, while Swansea sit in ninth position, five points off the playoffs during a vital stage of the campaign.

We say: Blackburn 1-1 Swansea

Blackburn will be looking for their first league win over Swansea since 2011, but we fancy the Welsh side to secure a share of the spoils this weekend. A draw would not particularly help either side as they look to move into the top six, but it would not be the worst result in the world for either manager.

Cardiff vs. Brentford (Saturday, 3pm)

Brentford will be looking to triumph in the Championship for the first time since February 8 when they travel to Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.

The Bees are currently on a four-game winless run in all competitions but are still fifth in the table, while Cardiff sit 11th having lost their last two to Stoke City and Nottingham Forest.

We say: Cardiff 1-2 Brentford

Both teams will be desperate to bounce back from disappointing results during the week, but we fancy Brentford to pick up an important three points. The Bees are certainly due a victory and should have just about enough to beat Harris's team at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Fulham vs. Preston (Saturday, 3pm)

Fulham's Aleksandar Mitrovic scores their first goal against Swansea on February 26, 2020© Reuters

Arguably the pick of this weekend's Championship action will take place at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon as Fulham prepare to welcome Preston North End.

Fulham, who recorded a 1-0 win over Swansea City on Wednesday night, are currently third in the table, while Preston occupy the final playoff position with 11 matches left.

We say: Fulham 2-0 Preston

There is simply no downplaying the importance of this match to both teams. Fulham are, rightly, the favourites to triumph on Saturday, and we are struggling to look past the hosts in this particular contest.

Huddersfield vs. Charlton (Saturday, 3pm)

Charlton's Lyle Taylor celebrates after scoring their first goal with teammates on February 11, 2020© Reuters

Huddersfield Town play host to Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon with the Championship strugglers locked on the same points in the table.

The Addicks and the Terriers sit in 18th and 19th position respectively, just two points above the relegation zone.

We say: Huddersfield Town 1-1 Charlton Athletic

Given their respective positions in the table, this will be regarded as a must-not-lose encounter by both clubs. With that in mind, we are predicting a low-scoring draw at the John Smith's Stadium.

Luton vs. Stoke (Saturday, 3pm)

Luton Town play host to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon with the opportunity to move within two points of the Potters in the Championship standings.

Meanwhile, Stoke, who sit just one point above the bottom three, could drop into the relegation zone with defeat at Kenilworth Road.

We say: Luton Town 1-1 Stoke City

With both teams having avoided defeat in their last outing, they will be confident of making further progress at the weekend. That could result in a hard-fought contest which ends with the clubs settling for a share of the spoils.

Millwall vs. Bristol City (Saturday, 3pm)

Filip Benkovic celebrates scoring for Bristol City against Derby County on February 12, 2020© Reuters

Playoff hopefuls Bristol City make the trip to The Den to face Millwall having lost their last three matches in the Championship.

While Millwall are also two games without success, victory in East London on Saturday afternoon will take the Lions level on points with their opponents.

We say: Millwall 2-1 Bristol City

Bristol are difficult to back against anyone right now, never mind in a tough trip to Millwall. While it may prove to be a close contest, the home side should have enough to edge out the Robins, potentially via a late goal.

QPR vs. Birmingham (Saturday, 3pm)

Birmingham City's Scott Hogan celebrates scoring their first goal with teammates on February 11, 2020© Reuters

Mid-table pair Queens Park Rangers and Birmingham City face off at Loftus Road on Saturday level on points in the Championship standings.

Both sides are nine points clear of the relegation zone and 10 points off the playoff places, and come into this contest off the back of decent runs of form.

We say: Queens Park Rangers 2-2 Birmingham City

Given the good recent form of both sides and their well-documented defensive struggles, the pair could cancel each other at Loftus Road in an entertaining, high-scoring draw.

Reading vs. Barnsley (Saturday, 3pm)

Barnsley's Cauley Woodrow scores their first goal on February 26, 2020© Reuters

Reading host a resurgent Barnsley side at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday and will hope to arrest their dramatic slide with a positive result.

Meanwhile, relegation-threatened Barnsley are now within three points of safety and will be motivated to keep their recent winning streak going.

We say: Reading 0-1 Barnsley

Reading have failed to score in their last two games, while Barnsley have now won three in a row and their momentum could guide them to yet another win.

Sheffield Wednesday vs. Derby (Saturday, 3pm)

Derby County's Wayne Rooney reacts on February 25, 2020© Reuters

Sheffield Wednesday welcome Derby County to Hillsborough on Saturday in a meeting between two sides with diminishing hopes of making the Championship playoffs.

The Owls ended a poor run of form with a win in midweek against Charlton Athletic, while Derby suffered a 2-1 defeat away to Queens Park Rangers.

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 2-2 Derby County

Both sides have been in up and down form of late and that makes this a tough match to predict. As a result a draw appears most likely, a result that will suit neither club in the pursuit of the playoffs.

West Brom vs. Wigan (Saturday, 3pm)

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic on February 15, 2020© Reuters

West Bromwich Albion will be looking to continue their charge towards the Premier League when they welcome Wigan Athletic to the Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies are currently four points clear of second-placed Leeds United at the top of the Championship table, while Wigan sit 22nd as they battle against the drop.

We say: West Brom 2-0 Wigan Athletic

Wigan's recent form deserves a lot of respect, but it is difficult to look past West Brom, who are threatening to race clear at the summit. The Baggies should have too much for their opponents on Saturday afternoon.

Middlesbrough vs. Nottm Forest (Monday, 7.45pm)

Middlesbrough manager Jonathan Woodgate on January 21, 2020© Reuters

Relegation-threatened Middlesbrough play host to promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest in the Championship on Monday night.

Forest travel to the Riverside Stadium following a 1-0 win away to Cardiff City on Tuesday, whereas Boro have lost their last three league games by the same scoreline.

We say: Middlesbrough 0-2 Nottingham Forest

Middlesbrough have struggled for goals all season, and while they showed signs of improvement against Leeds, Forest should have too much attacking quality for them as they look to further their promotion charge.
