Thomas Christiansen plays down Leeds United promotion chances

Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen plays down his side's chances of earning promotion to the Premier League this season.

Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has played down talk of his side earning promotion despite their impressive start to the season.

The Whites have won five and drawn two of their opening seven fixtures to sit top of the Championship table for the first time in 13 years.

Last night's 2-0 victory over Birmingham City also marked their sixth consecutive league clean sheet, with their only two goals conceded this season having come against Bolton Wanderers on the opening day.

"It's just a situation at the moment," Christiansen told reporters last night. "If you tell me it's the last game and we're in that position I would be happy, proud and all that you can say about that.

"But right now, don't give me anything. It puts a bit more pressure on the team because everyone now wants to beat Leeds.

"The performance was not the best, but if you still take the three points you have to be proud. What we have done until now is a high level.

"I'm very happy with the result and also the way we took these three points. It was a very difficult game. Birmingham gave us these problems, but when you manage to take the three points even when you play not so good, or the same performance as in the last game, then you're probably more satisfied."

Next up for Leeds is a trip to Millwall on Saturday afternoon.
