Stefano Mauri says that he always remains hopeful of a return to the Italy setup.

Lazio captain Stefano Mauri has admitted that he will always be hopeful of a recall to the Italy squad.

The attacking midfielder, who has scored three goals in 25 appearances this season, said that all he can do is play well for his club and hope.

"I'm doing my job and waiting," Gazzetta dello Sport quotes Mauri as saying.

"I always hope for a return to the Italy team. It is normal that you have to do well with your club and hope for a call. I am calm and I want to help Lazio."

Lazio are currently third in Serie A.
