Stefano Mauri eyes Champions League spot with Lazio

Stefano Mauri is confident that Lazio will be able to compete in the Champions League in the upcoming years.

Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri is confident that his side will be able to compete in the Champions League in the upcoming years.

The 32-year-old is also impressed with new coach Vladimir Petkovic.

"I feel that Lazio will be challenging for Champions League places in the next two years," Mauri told Sky Sport 24. "That is what we are aiming towards.

"Petkovic has made a good impression. He has ideas that some Italian coaches don't have. It is not so easy to put those ideas into practice, but we will get there.

"We had a training camp that was not easy, but we are now putting his ideas on to the pitch. He is new, but this is not a revolution."

Lazio began their 2012-13 Serie A campaign with a 1-0 away victory over Atalanta last weekend.
