Seattle Sounders have beaten MLS champions Los Angeles Galaxy 2-0 thanks to goals from Eddie Johnson and Fredy Montero.
The match almost started in spectacular fashion as Galaxy's Landon Donovan unleashed a fierce shot from 35 yards that flew just wide of the post.
Montero had the game's first clear chance as the striker collected a pass from Mauro Rosales but his shot was tipped round the post by Bill Gaudette.
Seattle continued to control the match and Gaudette once again kept the scores level as he pushed Eddie Johnson's effort to safety.
The hosts did finally make the breakthrough in the 40th minute when Johnson rose highest to head Rosales's cross into the bottom corner.
Seattle put distance between them and Los Angeles in the opening stages of the second half when Montero found space on the edge of the box, firing his shot powerfully past Gaudette.
Donovan continued to be the sole threat for Galaxy and the former Everton midfielder almost pulled a goal back on the hour mark but he was denied by Bryan Meredith.
The visitors struggled to force a way back into the match in the closing stages and Seattle comfortably held on for the victory.
