Gonzalo Higuain: 'I could not turn down Juventus'

Argentina international Gonzalo Higuain reveals that he could not pass up the chance to join Juventus this summer.

Gonzalo Higuain has said that he simply could not pass up the chance to join Juventus this summer.

The Argentina international completed a £75.3m move to the Italian champions earlier this week, and his transfer from Napoli has led to criticism from his former club.

On Wednesday, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis claimed that the 28-year-old, who scored 36 league goals last season, had 'betrayed' the Blues. However, Higuain has revealed that he had to follow his heart and ultimately decided to join "an incredible project" in Turin.

"In life, you make decisions thinking about what is best for you. I did that by choosing Juve. Obviously it wasn't easy, there were some long days with my friends and family. Juve is an important club on the world stage. One of my reasons was linked to the mentality of such a great group," Higuain told reporters.

"They are a great team. They have a winning mentality and an incredible project. Now I have to show my worth and I hope to have a great season. Juve have a great team in general, they're a collective where everyone plays for everyone else. That's one of the strengths of Juventus."

Higuain became Juve's fifth summer signing following the arrivals of Dani Alves, Medhi Benatia, Miralem Pjanic and Marko Pjaca.
