Ipswich Town midfielder Anthony Wordsworth suffers three cracked vertebrae during his side's 1-0 win over Blackpool at the weekend.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has revealed that midfielder Anthony Wordsworth faces a significant spell on the sidelines with a back injury.

Wordsworth suffered three cracked vertebrae when challenging for a header with teammate Daryl Murphy during Ipswich's 1-0 victory over Blackpool, and McCarthy has admitted that he could miss the rest of the season.

McCarthy told BBC Radio Suffolk: "He's not looking very good. He's cracked three vertebrae.

"It won't require any surgery. It will heal. But it will be six weeks before he's doing anything really."

Wordsworth was making his debut for the Tractor Boys after moving to Portman Road from Colchester in January.
