Mick McCarthy delighted with Ipswich Town defenders at both ends of the pitch

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy praises his defenders for their contributions both at the back and going forward.

Mick McCarthy has heaped praise on his Ipswich Town back four, not just for their defensive work, but also for their attacking prowess.

The Blues are flying high in second in the Championship and have lost just one of their last 16 games.

The back four of Luke Chambers, Christophe Berra, Tommy Smith and Tyrone Mings have all impressed, with centre-backs Berra and Smith contributing seven goals already this season.

"We've got proper defenders who will put their bodies on the line to defend," McCarthy told the club website.

"They are scoring goals as well though and contributing at the other end of the park.

"Chambo, Tommy, Christophe are better than most in the Championship at attacking the ball. If anyone is better, they are doing well but I think they are the best."

Mings's rise at left-back has attracted Premier League interest from several clubs, including Arsenal.
