Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat lacklustre Celtic

Inverness Caledonian Thistle beat Celtic 1-0 in their Scottish Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle continued their impressive start to the Scottish Premier League season with a 1-0 win over league champions Celtic this afternoon.

Inverness threatened after four minutes when Greg Tansey lined up a free kick outside the box, but his effort drifted narrowly wide of the post.

Celtic's first chance arrived eight minutes later when Kris Commons fed Leigh Griffiths just outside the box, but the Scottish forward could only strike his effort into the side netting.

The Scottish champions began to dominate proceedings as the half progressed, with Inverness goalkeeper Dean Brill called into action to deny Efe Ambrose and Liam Henderson in quick succession.

Teemu Pukki was next to come close for Celtic after 25 minutes, but Brill twice denied the attacker from close range.

Nir Biton rattled the crossbar for Celtic late in the period, but Inverness also came close with Gary Warren having a header cleared off the line in first-half stoppage time.

Josh Meekings came close for Inverness 13 minutes into the second period, but could only plant his header over the crossbar in what was the first real chance since the break.

Griffiths then tested Brill from close range, but it was Inverness who broke the deadlock after 65 minutes.

It came in fortuitous circumstances, with Celtic defender Eoghan O'Connell turning a low cross from Marley Watkins into his own net.

Celtic came close to an immediate response when Anthony Stokes fed Commons inside the Inverness box, but Brill was once more down to make a smart stop.

Ryan Christie came close to making it 2-0 to the home side 10 minutes from time after latching onto a mistake from Ambrose, but his effort whistled narrowly wide of the post.

Stokes again tried his luck for Celtic late on, but could only find the side netting as Inverness held on for all three points.
